Sept. 17, 2018 – AxessPointe Community Health Centers, Inc. has undergone two major expansion projects since September 2017, with their new Kent and Arlington facilities, and is continuing that trend into the fall of 2018.

AxessPointe is expanding its pharmacy footprint and is adding a third location within its Broadway clinic located at 676 S. Broadway St. in downtown Akron. The pharmacy will be on the first floor of the building, right inside the main entrance in the space that was formerly a Klein’s Pharmacy. It’s anticipated to be open for business on Sept. 19, 2018.

The Broadway facility houses AxessPointe’s two specialty clinics: internal medicine and women’s health, on the first and second floors, respectively.

“Integrating the pharmacy services with the medical services helps our patients achieve better outcomes,” states Dr. Magdi Awad, Director of Pharmacy at AxessPointe. “Our pharmacists work with the medical providers to ensure that every patient is on the most appropriate, effective, safe and convenient medications for their medical conditions.”

The AxessPointe Pharmacy utilizes the 340B program, which is a federal program that allows discounted medications to be offered to eligible patients. Those who have prescription insurance coverage pay the same price as usual, but their purchase will contribute to the 340B program to help patients without health insurance.

There are many benefits to using the AxessPointe Pharmacy. Not only does it help those who need assistance with the cost of their medications, but it’s convenient for AxessPointe patients. The pharmacies are located within AxessPointe clinics, making it a one-stop shop for patients who are visiting for an appointment. The other two pharmacies are located within the Arlington and Kent offices.

Medication Therapy Management (MTM) is another service provided by the pharmacy. This program helps patients with chronic illnesses, or patients using multiple medications, by ensuring they are using the safest, most cost-effective, most convenient and correct medications possible. Other services offered include: a list of $4/10 medications, automated refills, discounted diabetic supplies, discounted over-the-counter medications, vaccinations, Medicare Part D assistance and medication delivery.

“Our goal is to make sure that costs never become a barrier for our patients,” expresses Chris Richardson, AxessPointe’s CEO. “We do our very best to make all of our services easily accessible to patients to ensure they receive the best care, and best health outcomes, possible.”

The pharmacy area is currently undergoing renovations to make it a more workable space and adding new, updated equipment. Other updates at the Broadway facility include fresh paint in the suites housing AxessPointe’s clinics and new exterior signage to make the building more visible from Broadway St.

AxessPointe Community Health Centers, Inc. is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) serving more than 18,500 patients in 2017 throughout Summit and Portage counties. AxessPointe has five current sites in Northeast Ohio, including three in Akron, one in Kent and one in Barberton. An FQHC is a non-profit corporation that delivers primary medical, dental and preventive health services in medically underserved areas. AxessPointe also provides pharmacy, women’s health and behavioral health services.
