AxessPointe Community Health Centers, Inc. Receives $20,000 Capital Grant from GAR Foundation for Barberton Expansion Project
Sept. 4, 2019 – The Distribution Committee of GAR Foundation awarded AxessPointe Community Health Centers, Inc. a capital grant of $20,000 to fund the expansion of their Barberton clinic at its August meeting. AxessPointe began work on the project earlier this summer.
The expansion and renovation of the space includes the addition of an on-site pharmacy, additional exam rooms, dental operatories and a suite of offices. With an AxessPointe pharmacy housed inside the clinic, appointments for patients will be even more convenient because they’ll be able to receive their care and their prescriptions all in the same place. Patients will also have the chance to speak one-on-one with a pharmacist to review any questions they may have on their medications.
“Adding to our scope of services at this location will allow us to better serve our patients and the Barberton area,” said Chris Richardson, CEO of AxessPointe. “We’re looking forward to the completion of the project and are thankful for the generous support of our community partners, like GAR Foundation.”
AxessPointe opened its clinic in Barberton in 2013. The opportunity to expand occurred when another tenant in the building, located at 390 Robinson Ave., did not renew their lease. There has been a growing number of patients over the years and AxessPointe saw this as the chance to increase their space in the building to be able to serve even more residents in Barberton. The new space will be 6,894 square feet and is slated to be completed in January 2020.
AxessPointe Community Health Centers is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) serving more than 18,500 patients in 2018 throughout Summit and Portage counties. AxessPointe has five current sites in Northeast Ohio, including three in Akron, one in Kent and one in Barberton. An FQHC is a non-profit corporation that delivers primary medical, dental and preventive health services in medically underserved areas. AxessPointe also provides pharmacy, women’s health and behavioral health services. For more information visit axesspointe.org.
