What Our Program Can Offer You:
The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program will provide residents with experience, confidence and support to:
- Provide direct patient care under collaborative practice agreements for disease states including, but not limited to, diabetes, hepatitis C, anticoagulation disorders, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia.
- Develop educational skills including small group, large group and clinical precepting through participation in the NEOMED College of Pharmacy Teaching Certificate Program.
- Participate in professional development through attending local and national organization meetings, participation in pharmacy organizations and collaboration with other providers, faculty members and students.
- Design and implement a major research project that will be submitted for publication in an appropriate journal as well as presented at a regional residency conference and one national conference.
The Residency Program Overview:
The emphasis of the program is on the development of skills in five distinct learning experiences: pharmaceutical care and practice management, distribution/staffing, teaching, project management, and entrepreneurship and leadership.
About 80 percent of the residency is spent at the practice site. Clinical responsibilities at the practice site will vary and will be under the guidance of the assigned site preceptor. Approximately 20 percent of the residency is spent at NEOMED under the guidance of the assigned preceptor.
NEOMED responsibilities include:
- Teaching large and small groups as assigned.
- Participating in committee work as assigned.
- Attending college and department meetings.
In addition to fulfilling the residency program goals, residents will also be required to participate in a program orientation, complete research training, actively participate in program recruitment efforts, and engage in self-evaluations and assessments.
